What is it that makes science scientific? Is that knowledge obtained or the method? These central questions
are addressed in the article. The paper offers textual analysis of the articles dealing specifically with
the question of rhetoric and science as well as textual analysis of Car a Finnegan's book Picturing Poverty.
The article proposes a view that social studies, communication studies or other humanities, which are unified
by the passion to rhetoric, must leave testable, universal and non-judgmental scientific knowledge
alone and what is more stop exploiting the status of science in their self-representation.
