The article focuses its attention on peculiarities of genre and style of prose about pilgrimages in English and
Chinese literature in XVI-XVII centuries. The main idea of the article is to show that the same topic in different
literatures, exploring under the same social conditions, demands the use of the same literary devices. So, in spite
of the fact of great cultural variety, there are some common features on the genre and style levels in different
literary works. These worL· present the theme of pilgrimage as a process of searching Truth, and direct on
presenting the inner life of characters.
