Abstract
The paper reviews the problematics of the modern academic view on the concepts of ‘culture’ and ‘civilization’. These categories with their peculiar intercommunication became the object of the most intent attention of humanitarians at the turn of the 21st century. By that time, for the last 15 decades, three paradigms have taken shape in science as well as in art; those did not just take each other’s place but sprouted mutually, stimulating transformation and integration processes. Thus, classical, non-classical, and post-non-classical paradigms co-exist successfully, interacting and influencing our perception of scientific research objects; these issues are also considered in the paper. The modern post-nonclassic culture comprehension implies its dynamism, development of non-linearity, sociality, and environmental interconnection of its agents. Its development – and, for sure, taking into account its experience accumulated by generations, – implies the historical dimension of culture. For this reason, a particular attention is spared to the disciplinary field of historical culturology, for which the culture is neither an institute nor a set of artefacts, but a systematic reflection of the specifics of public consciousness (stimulating collective activity). That is why the category of ‘mentality’ – worldoutlook – is so important. It is formed by means of a dynamic complex of information interchange of some group of individuals with each other and with the surrounding landscape. Information is another important sphere discussed in the paper, being a specific state and an essential element of communication. We claim that the very informational exchange makes the foundation of culture. This basis is to be a regularly reproduced creative process based on the mentality; the intensity and structure of informative exchange provide the cultural identity. Thus, sometimes under the absence of the written language or hierarchical forms of power, the dense network structures of information exchange are able to confirm the processes of a civilization.
