Abstract
The article analyzes artworks of the young Ukrainian artist Iryna Vorona. The projects “Unborn” (2016–2017), “I – Reflection” (2018), and others have been used as research material. Iryna Vorona got her classical education at NAOMA, Kyiv, and the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, Croatia. The artist works in her own unique technique, impulsively and intuitively; she likes to experiment, mixing different materials and techniques without fixing them in the process, so they cannot be repeated. Iryna Vorona does not contemplate compositions, they are born spontaneously. Her art is not serial; it requires dialogue, attention of the viewer, complex emotional and aesthetic experiences. The project “Unborn” (2016–2017) of Iryna Vorona over which the artist began to work in Zagreb is important to show the artist’s development. The project represents two large abstract compositions made in the author’s technique on paper, one in blue, the other in yellow tones. Due to the texture and mixed materials that reflect light in different ways, the effect of flicker, movement, fluctuation of the surface is created. Iryna Vorona explains the name of the project as reflecting something that could have happened and did not happen. The author’s philosophy, which originated in Plato’s intuition, was extremely organically embodied in material form. The works look alive and dynamic; they invite to plunge into the world of the artist’s fantasies. The “I – Reflection” project shows the result of Iryna Vorona’s creative development. The project took place in the spring of 2018 in the newly-built business center Astarta (Kyiv). The exhibition was held right in the hall of the business center, the pictures were placed on the easels, so the project could be perceived as a performative gesture, a collision of two parallel realities. In three dozen paintings of the project, Iryna Vorona objectifies the emotional and mental condition of the artist. It can be attributed as lyrical abstraction. Thus, the idea of an individual genius and a unique gesture of creation is reviving. The positive feature of the Ukrainian artistic market is the activity of art-manager Yuliia Aleksieieva, who was a sponsor of the “I – Reflection” project.
