Abstract
Ukrainian archaeology is currently facing numerous challenges, further intensified by the ongoing war. Beyond producing and disseminating knowledge, scholars have also become voices for Ukraine’s history and culture — in our case, for its archaeology. With this publication, the Department of Archaeology of the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy joins this important mission. The Kyiv Mohyla Archaeological Journal is a direct response to the challenges of our time. Among the key issues we recognise are the lack of specialised academic outlets and the urgent need to communicate Ukraine’s archaeology to international colleagues in English. Therefore, the journal will publish articles in both English and Ukrainian. The journal will publish both field research results and theoretical studies. Although its primary focus will naturally be on Ukraine, it will also serve as a platform for research concerning other regions. The scope of articles may include not only strictly archaeological topics but also subjects related to history, anthropology, cultural heritage, etc. In accordance with its core mission, the journal will operate on the principles of transparency and academic integrity. It will publish only original research that undergoes double-blind peer review, and all publications will be made openly accessible on the journal’s website. We dedicate this inaugural issue to the 410th anniversary of the Kyiv Mohyla Academy. Tempus fugit, Academia sempiterna, words that also lie at the heart of archaeological knowledge, grounded in the study of time and continuity. We express our sincere gratitude to the Academy’s community for their support of our Department’s scientific and educational initiatives. The launch of this journal was made possible through their collective effort and the financial support of the Myroslava Ivantsiv Named Fund of the International Charitable Foundation for the Revival of the Kyiv Mohyla Academy.
