Abstract
У статті зроблено спробу встановлення типології методів навчання мови як іноземної й обґрунтування найефективніших з-поміж них на підставі узагальнення європейського досвіду. Охарактеризовано найбільш часто вживані методи в європейській практиці викладання іноземних мов: аудіо-лінгвальновізуальний, комунікативний, проектний, інтенсивного та діяльнісного навчання, дистанційний тощо.

Abstract. This article attempts to establish a typology of learning methods as a foreign language and study the most effective among them on the basis of summarizing the European experience. Characterized most commonly used methods in the European practice of teaching foreign languages, lingual audio-visual, communicative, project, and activity-intensive training, distance and more.
Socio-cultural aspects of learning foreign languages has changed considerably in the modern world, significantly increased their educational functions

in schools and universities, professional significance for the labour market, enhances their motivation to learn. Diversity and linguistic pluralism is leading the trend of modern European language education.
Knowledge and skills to use at least one foreign language were common standard in all European countries. A number of EU countries accepted that all graduates of secondary schools, regardless of the form of training must master two foreign languages, corresponding to international trends, the founding documents of the Council of Europe and UNESCO.
System level foreign language is reflected in the Council of Europe document entitled «Common competence of foreign language: learning, teaching, assessment». Certainly, learning two foreign languages contributes to the process of continuous personal development, improve general education and culture. Most Europeans believe that a person of culture should have two native languages — the language of father and mother.
Traditional methods of teaching foreign language in Ukraine predicted the assimilation language skills in artificial conditions, often based on rote, resulting in virtually no attention paid to the skills of direct communication in a foreign language.
Today, more teachers and researchers turn to the European experience of learning foreign languages, especially considering the aspects of training teachers of foreign languages in European countries, the place of foreign languages in the education system of the Czech Republic. Particular attention is paid to the problems to motivate students in learning foreign languages, object-verbal methods of integrated education and so on.
EU standards of education aimed at creating a motivational environment for students in the study of a foreign language. The efficiency and effectiveness of the process of formation of foreign language competence depends on the successful combination of teacher selection and appropriate methods of teaching foreign languages.
Using methods will help create class environment, enhance creative ability of students to develop their thinking and shape them skills necessary for modern society.
