| dc.description | In this article, the problem of apt term determination is considered in the context of field terminological systems development and creation of the integrated national terminological system. The necessity of objective and scholarly approach to the term selection which accounts for the notion content and language laws, is shown. This is based on application of the statistical and analytical methods of terminology as a science, and is closely related to the synonymy phenomenon arising in various term vocabularies. Having generalized the general attributes of terms in various terminological systems, we obtained the following sequence of apt term tokens: 1) exactness, 2) essentiality (coverage of important aspects of the concept and absence of false associations), 3) plainness, 4) derivative quality, or derivativity (ability to easily create derivatives of the word), 5) good sounding, 6) systemic feature, or systemness, or systemity (reflection in the designation belonging with a particular class of concepts), 7) organic nature, or organicity (compliance with spelling and tendencies of language), 8) compatibility (ability to combine 33 terminological collocations), 9) unambiguity, 10) nominativity (as opposed to descriptive attribute), 11) brevity. A number of the English borrowings (especially those in the -ing form that are difficult to pronounce by the Ukrainians and those with the distorted extermal form: бакбендинг, консалтинг, тюнінг; стала Гола, нов-гав, гепі енд, філософія Гайдегера, etc.) and mechanically spelled Russian lexemes with extrinsic to the Ukrainian language morphological structure or semantics (біжучий, несучий, фосфоресціюючий; датчик, качати, накачка, etc.) we consider as unsuccessful units. Thus, codifying a current term or suggesting in return a new one that does not comply with the results obtained using the statistical method, one must take into account the above characteristics, i. e. take advantage of the analytical method. The prospects of further study of the well-formed term problem are formulated that include formalization of the above requirements for automatic term assessment. | en |
