dc.descriptionThe paper deals with the Royal Doors of Ukrainian iconostasis of the 17–18th centuries, the decoration of which includes a zoomorphic motifs, to offer the reconstruction of their meaning. The scheme of allocation of images of animals and medallions with the "Annunciation" and evangelists almost exactly reproduces the motif of the World Tree in the general composition. The direct analogies to this composition in the Christian art of Ukraine of the 17–18th centuries are unknown. The key to the understanding the meaning of this composition on the Royal Doors is the image of "Annunciation." The meaning of the Annunciation in the Christian theology is connected with the theme of the Curtains of the Old Testament church, which in the Christian tradition is its identification with the flesh of Christ. The meaning and function of the Old Testament Curtains were transferred first to the altar fence, and later to the iconostasis. The Royal Doors with the "Annunciation" can be interpreted as an allegorical image of the embodied God in the material world created by Him. Here the oldest layer of ideas about the spatial structure of the universe is combined with the Christian doctrine of the universe as God’s creation, and the idea of a new image of the world, was affirmed after Savior’s Cross victims. So, the Doors with zoomorphic motifs in the decoration include a composite scheme of the World Tree rendered as the ontological model of the universe that corresponds to the Christian consciousness. This compositional formula appears in Ukraine in the 17th century in the context of the inter-faith debate. The disappearance of the external factors that led to this composition explains the phasing out of its use in the iconography of the Royal Doors in the iconostasis of the 18th century. A probable source of the semantic and visual analogy for this scheme is Ark of the Covenant pairs of animals in the Jewish tradition decoration. It was a stable mental model of decorating a sacred locus by zoomorphic motifs with the circle of inherent symbolic meanings. At the same time, the repertoire of decoration animals remained stable and became an important semantic code for understanding the content of the composition.en_US
dc.description.abstractУ статті розглянуто царські врата українських іконостасів XVII–XVIII ст., композиція яких містить мотив Світового дерева, та запропоновано реконструкцію їхнього сенсу. Виявлено, що опорядження царських врат з мотивом Світового дерева та інтегрованими в його структуру іконами "Благовіщення" і євангелістів представляло образ істинної картини світу, оновленого після Хресної Жертви Спасителя. Така композиційна формула з’являється в Україні у XVII ст. в контексті міжконфесійної полеміки; зникнення зовнішніх чинників, які призвели до появи цієї композиції, пояснює поступове припинення її використання в іконографії царських врат іконостасів у XVIII ст.uk_UA
