dc.descriptionThere is a copy of Феатрон published in Chernihiv in 1708 in the collection of the National Museum of the History of Ukraine. It was owned by Vasyl Vasyliovych Kochubej from 1708. This copy stays unknown both for historians of Hetmanate and historians of book to the last time. There are almost a hundred of marginal notes on the Феатрон’s pages. Most of them – 74 of total 96 – were written by Vasyl Kochubey. These notes give a perfect material to estimate not so intellectual requests of the reader but his mental condition. Most of marginalias accompany those parts of printed text dealing with the problems of high authority’s rightful justice, mercy and execution, responsibilities to subordinates. No doubt that Kochubey read the book pondering on his own family history, his father’s denunciation against Ivan Mazepa and execution of his father by hetman’s order. As the museum’s copy of Феатрон testifies, books were not only the sources of intellectual development and spreading of new ideas but a kind of psychologist for the readers.en_US
