Abstract
Abstracts of the report of the participants of the 31st EAA Annual Meeting (2-6 September 2025, Belgrade Virtual). This research examines traumatic injuries as a mirror of historical events, social structures, and medical proficiency in Kyiv from the 10th to the 13th centuries. As a pivotal trade hub inhabited by diverse populations, ancient Kyiv experienced frequent social and natural upheavals. By analyzing the distribution of domestic, professional, and military traumas among approximately 300 individuals from the Upper City, Podil, and Kopyriv Kinets, this study reconstructs the lived experience of its residents. Utilizing morphological analysis and X-ray diagnostics, the research evaluates both healed and unhealed fractures across cranial and postcranial remains.
