| dc.description | The article analyses the features of political terminology in the Old Slavonic texts. Special attention was paid to the examples of untranslatable of some key political terms, which originated from Old Slavic language and used in contemporary political and philosophical literature, in particular «state», «power», «peace», «war», «law». The article is an attempt to prove the idea that attribution to them of modern meanings causes the anachronisms and the aberrations of senses because they are the typical examples of untranslatable in one tradition. Proposed in working with ancient sources to consider archaic meanings of political terms that it almost disappeared from modern semantic fields, but in the period of Kyiv Rus and later were important, also to correlate them with 81 the ancient, Byzantine or Western terms, considering that the translation often gave them new meanings, that was different from the original. In addition, in the Old Slavonic language were not strict equivalents of the term «politics», «monarchy», «republic» and so on. Thus, author concludes that in the work with the national written material we must consider the untranslatable two types — «internal» and «external». That is, on the one hand, to observe the changes in meanings of political terms under the influence of the archaic ideas, features of use, etymology, context, situation, etc. within an one tradition, on the other hand — we have to pay attention to untranslatable meanings caused to ingress of Western and Byzantine terms in the Slavic environment. So we can conclude the experience by the French and Ukrainian scientists of «European dictionary of philosophies’ multivolume edition that had been published in Ukraine in 2009 may be an important methodological guide for learning the Ukrainian political terminology. | en |
