dc.descriptionThe problem of the language situation has been in the focus of attention with many authors, but there is little information available on the language situation in the Internet. The article "Proportion of using of the Ukrainian and 215 the Russian language in the social network Vkontakte" deals with the problem of using of these both languages in the Internet. The purpose of this paper is to determine the peculiarities of using of the Ukrainian and the Russian language in the virtual space. The research was conducted by analyzing accounts of different Internet users. Their personal information, comment and posts were examined. Internet users were chosen automatically according to the age, gender and territorial principles. Investigated in the study are 200 Internet accounts of the users aged 14 to 35 years. 125 owners of these web pages live in Kyiv, 75 people live in other cities of Ukraine. Men have 78 accounts among 200, women have 122 web-pages. Internet users are divided into three groups based on age (14–18 years, 19–25 years and 26–35 years) and their accounts are analyzed in detail. Attention is paid in the study to the language behavior of these people in the virtual space. We place emphasis on the percentage correlation of Ukrainian and Russian language speakers in the social network VKontakte. From the results we can make a conclusion that the most preferable language of virtual communication among Ukrainians is the Russian one. The results of this investigation of virtual language situation are in agreement with the real language situation, where the Russian language dominates in informal communication.en
