This article is devoted to the issue of the language policy of the European Union, particularly in Member States and proposition of Ukraine language policy. The definition of language policy proposed by linguists from different countries and their division due to the using of the relevant authorities is presented at the beginning of the article. The main EU institutions engaged in language policy are also briefly presented in the article. Taking into account the fact that besides the common language policy, each Member States hasve the right to have their own language policies the second part of article is devoted to language policy in Estonia and Poland. 102 The example of Estonia is very important due to the fact that this state, similarly to Ukraine, was part of the USSR. Part of Estonian language policy reforms can be used as an example for reforms in Ukraine in this sphere. Another example is Poland. In addition, strong conditions for foreigners who want to obtain Polish citizenship or study. Effective language policy elevates the status of the Polish language in the EU and in the world, as a result elevates the status of the language within the country Taking into account the language policy of the EU author presents own proposal of language policy according to the sociolinguistic research of motivation of Ukrainian language behavior and examples of European countries that can be used in Ukraine.
