The article is devoted to the topical issue of the correlation between security and freedom which became even more acute after acts of terrorism in Paris in 2015. Such a correlation is studied in the theories of Thomas Hobbes, John Locke, and John Stuart Mill that are of a high importance for liberal thought. It is argued that although these thinkers devoted considerable attention to formulate a principle of liberty, a principle of security was of a higher importance to them.uk
