Abstract
Статтю присвячено підсумкам довготривалих археологічних досліджень історичного центру м. Очаків Південною Середньовічною експедицією Інституту археології
НАН України. Висвітлюються основні напрями робіт: візуальні та геофізичні обстеження, стаціонарні розкопки місця Османської фортеці Озі, середньовічного міста, інших місцезнаходжень культурних нашарувань. Представлений стислий огляд результатів досліджень по основних ділянках по роках, склад та етнокультурна належність артефактів.
Description
During 1990—2009 the Southern Medieval Archaeological Expedition of the Institute of Archeology of NAS of Ukraine carried out archaeological excavations on the territory of the central part of ancient Ochakiv. The works were carried out on two major sites (Levada and Synagogue) and several other locations. These studies have given important and interesting materials. The results allowed us to note some important points. 1. Numerous artefacts of different chronological periods testify to the life of the local population in the historic part of the city and its surroundings from antiquity to the present time. 2. The fragments of 14th century pots sgrafito in the layers of the central part of the city indicate the existence of a certain settlement structure here before the construction of the Mengli Giray city in 1492. 3. The nature of the material complex, the cultural identity of its individual components are important for studying the history of the Cossacks in the territory of Ukraine, the specifics of the formation of culture and ethnicity in the southern lands, the mutual influences of different cultures.
Thus, the results that were obtained in different parts of the city, on the one hand, testify to the prospect of further archaeological investigation of the historical city centre. On the other hand, these materials are of great importance in solving the many actual problems of the historical and cultural development of the city, one of the significant strategic centres of the Northern Black Sea region.
