Abstract
Статтю присвячено дослідженню світоглядної еволюції Дмитра Донцова в період до Першої
світової війни. Головну увагу зосереджено на чинниках, що вплинули на формування світогляду мислителя (походження, освіта, досвід міжкультурного спілкування, досвід практичної діяльності,
інтелектуальні враження). Донцов визнавав, що на його погляди вплинула класична українська література, а також ідеї Миколи Міхновського, однак найцитованіші автори у його працях – Карл
Маркс, Фрідріх Енґельс і представники європейської соціал-демократії. Виявлено також потужний
вплив австромарксизму. Зроблено припущення, що у переддень війни саме австромарксизм визначав
інтелектуальні обрії Донцова у його намаганні розв’язати українське національне питання у межах
теоретичних побудов марксизму. Висвітлено конфлікт Донцова із чільними представниками Української соціал-демократичної робітничої партії (УСДРП). Зроблено висновок про його вирішальний
вплив на відлучення Донцова від середовища української соціал-демократії.
The article traces the evolution of Dmуtro Dontsov’s views before the First World War. The author’s main focus is on the factors (such as origin, education, intercultural experience, practical experience, and intellectual ideas) that influenced the thinker. Dontsov himself acknowledged the influence of classical Ukrainian literature as well as of the ideas of Mykola Mikhnovsky, but his most cited authors were Karl Marx, Friedrich Engels, and some representatives of European Social Democracy. Dontsov’s views before World War I can be described as anti-colonial Marxism. The author argues that Austromarxism had a powerful impact on Dontsov. The impact is traced in his attempts to solve the Ukrainian national question within the theoretical constructs of Marxism. The article highlights Dontsov’s conflict with some prominent representatives of the Ukrainian Social Democratic Labor Party. This conflict began with fundamental issues, and primarily different understandings of the intellectual limits of Marxism and the future of Ukrainian-Russian relations, but gradually they became very personal. The study of Dontsov’s works allows us to make some generalizations about important features of Eastern European nationalism. Unlike in Western Europe, where modern nationalism emerged before Marxism, Marxism was ahead of nationalism in Eastern Europе. Marxism therefore became a powerful intellectual source for many East European nationalists of that period.
