Item On one of the weapon types of Cimmerian time(2020) Klochko, DanyloThe article is dedicated to the analysis of bimetallic swords and daggers of Cimmerian time, which were found both at Ukrainian territory and neighboring countries. The previously known and new findings are analyzed.Item Under the Shadow of Conflict: Understanding the Belligerent Landscapes of the Kyiv Triangle(2024) Ivanova, Oleksandra; Zotsenko, IvanThe article examines the defence system of the city of Kyiv in different historical periods, focus-ing on the territory of the immediate outskirts of Kyiv – the Kyiv triangle – the northern part of the Kyiv Plateau. From the moment the city of Kyiv was founded until the events of the Rus-sian-Ukrainian war of the 21st century, the unique topography of the microregion was used to build the city’s defence systems. Today, in the region covered by this study, there are the remains of the ancient “Serpent Ramparts”, fortifications of hillforts and cities, the remains of Cossack, Polish and Moscovian forts, redoubts and outposts, pillboxes from the time of the Second World War, modern military fortifications. All these different types of archaeological monuments form a unique belligerent landscapes that require comprehensive research and protection.Item Z dziejуw ukraińskiej recepcji Ogniem i mieczem Henryka Sienkiewicza(2014) Chemodanova, OlenaThis paper is an attempt to briefly outline the problem of the incompatibility of Polish and Ukrainian national myths that influenced reception of the novel With Fire and Sword (Ogniem i mieczem) in Ukraine. While for Henryk Sienkiewicz the Cossacks were just one of the social groups and Ruthenians were an ethnicity, for Ukrainians the Cossacks became the core of their national identity. Furthermore, several concrete Ukrainian responses to the novel that appeared during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries are analysed in the paper.
