dc.descriptionThe article reviews a set of topics related to the problem of locating and affirming the Latin Middle Ages within the intellectual space of the European philosophy of history, based on research in the European Medieval studies, as well as on many years of teaching experience with the original university syllabus “Typology of Medieval Philosophical Practices on the Latin West” for the master’s program in philosophy. Summarizing, the author offers answers to these three keystone questions: 1) “When?”; 2) “Why?”; and 3) “How?”; i.e. when, why, and how the Middle Ages were discovered and interpreted in historiosophical practices of subsequent cultural and historical periods. While treating skeptically the historiosophical line by Petrarch – Flavio Biondo – Baronius – G. Burnet – Ed. Gibbon – H. Th. Buckle – Voltaire – J. Burckhardt both for their understanding of the medieval cultural heritage and “the rubbish of the dark ages” (Gibbon), the author offers a historically balanced conception of the Latin Middle Ages as the era of revolutionary awakening of Europe from the pagan dormition of the matter-oriented cosmos of Antiquity toward the essentially new experience of the whole personality, under the guidance of the Absolute Person: the Christian God. Examining, from the above perspective, the historiosophical interpretations of the Latin Middle Ages by luminaries of the Renaissance, the author reckons in their experience of “living through history”, which allows him to provide an objective assessment of the results of such “communication between epochs” and offer a number of “epochal” conceptions of history itself, within the space of culture of the Renaissance.en
dc.description.abstractУ статті розглянуто комплекс сюжетів, пов’язаних із проблемою віднаходження та утвердження латинського Середньовіччя в інтелектуальному просторі європейської філософії історії. Автор дає відповідь на три питання: коли, чому і як було відкрито та інтерпретовано Середні віки в історіософських практиках наступних культурно-історичних епох. Скептично ставлячись до історіософської лінії Петрарки – Флавіо Бйондо – Баронія – Г. Барне-та – Е. Гіббона – А. Бокля – Вольтера – Я. Буркхардта щодо осягання середньовічного спадку як «мотлоху віків пітьми» (Гіббон), автор пропонує збалансоване розуміння латинського Середньовіччя як доби революційного пробудження Європи від поганського сну космічної речовини до принципово нового досвіду цілісної особистості під проводом Абсолютної Особи – християнського Бога. Розглядаючи під зазначеним кутом зору історіософські інтерпретації латинського Середньовіччя діячами Ренесансу, автор враховує їхній власний досвід «переживання історії» і пропонує низку «епохальних» розумінь самої історії в культурному просторі Відродження.uk
