In the article there are examined four histories of Ukrainian literature by Kyiv neoclassicist Mykola Zerov unknown to the public. Discovered in public and private archives, the texts expend our understanding of the early and late periods of Zerov's scientific work in the field of history of literature and allow us to trace how his historical-literary conception changed over time. The histories of literature of 1917-1918 belong to the contextual type with nation-building narration. Their periodization is based on the stages of the Ukrainian statehood formation. The sociological conception of the literary history formulated by Zerov in 1930s looks unexpected for the neoclassicist. The periodization of this history is based on the changing of socio-economic formations, taking into account genre and style changes.en_US
