dc.description.abstractThe article deals with using the most productive phraseological units indicating feelings with component ‘heart’ in Ukrainian, Polish, English, and German. The purpose of the article is to study the component ‘heart’ in idioms denoting feelings in Ukrainian, Polish, English, and German. The object of the study are Ukrainian, Polish, English, and German phraseological units denoting feelings, which contain component ‘heart’. The subject of study is the semantic features of idioms denoting feelings with component ‘heart’ and identifying the common features in Ukrainian, Polish, English and German. The analysis of idioms denoting feelings in Ukrainian, Polish, English, and German, which have the component ‘heart’ in the structure, shows common features within the compared idiomatic systems. Analyzing the idioms indicating feelings with component ‘heart’, it can be noted that Ukrainian, Polish, English, and German people ascribe both positive and negative feelings. The actual material of the studied languages shows that phraseological units with component ‘heart’ largely express positive features: high spirits, joy, love, and calm, which are socially typical for Ukrainians, Poles, British, and Germans. It should be noted that in all the studied languages in idioms denoting feelings, the word ‘серце’ / ‘serce’ / ‘heart’ / ‘das Herz’ can be replaced by the word ‘душа’ / ‘dusza’ / ‘soul’ / ‘die Seele’. The idioms with the component ‘heart’ in the Ukrainian and Polish mentality are perceived as active substances capable of performing an action, and rarely as objects of action or a place of concentration. The component ‘heart’ in idioms indicating feelings in the perception of the world of Germans and British is mostly treated as an object to which the action of external factors directed, but there are also phraseological units in which these realities are subjects of of action. The proposed research has broad prospects. It allows studying in depth the selected lexical level of idioms with the aim to find peculiarities of showing the feelings in phraseology.en
