Мова, переклад і механіка культурних трансферів: приклади політології та міжнародних відносин

dc.description.abstractУ статті доводиться, що для розуміння механіки культурних трансферів в науковій царині політології та теорій міжнародних відносин мова відіграє важливу роль, особливо при відтворенні особливостей понятійно-категоріального апарату, які мають свою функціональну складову, але при цьому не завжди позбавлені емоційної (експресивної) компоненти. Завдяки цьому неможливо просто перекласти окремо взяте поняття з однієї мову на іншу, навіть у тому разі, коли йдеться про на перший погляд топоніми, що проілюстровано в статті на прикладі "Європи" як слово, яке неможливо механістично передати з одного мовно-культурного середовища до іншого, бо в контексті геополітики це вже не просто топонім, а поняття, значення якого може варіюватися залежно від контексту, як географічного, історичного чи цивілізаційно-культурного. У статті також показується, що для розуміння механіки культурних трансферів та їхніх результатів слід враховувати історичну трансформацію смислу поняття, зокрема зважаючи на те, що розмежування функціональної та експресивної компонентів задля осягнення об’єктивного значення часто є дуже ускладненим, або й практично неможливим, що ілюструє, зокрема, поняття "націоналізм", або, в історичній ретроспективі, "тоталітаризм" для італійських фашистів. Разом з тим, якщо допустити, що для ключових понять політології чи теорій міжнародних відносин можна виділити якесь об’єктивне значення, значуще для досліджуваних теорії, то слід, у першу чергу, аналізувати реальний слововжиток цього поняття – як у вихідному мовно-культурному середовищі, так і в тому, щодо якого здійснюється його трансфер. Якщо такий аналіз ще й дозволяє зрозуміти експресивну компоненту значення, при перенесенні його до іншого мовно-культурного середовища це значення можна нейтралізувати методом актуалізації: у статті наводиться приклад вживання "націоналізму" в теоріях міжнародних відносин у публікації науковця К.-Л. Седермана, для якого націоналізм має вочевидь негативні конотації та сприймається як причина етнічних конфліктів, воєн, "давньої ненависті" тощо. Відповідно, якщо таку позицію дослідника актуалізувати та чітко прописати приміткою до українського перекладу, емоційний градус тексту можна понизити і спростити сприйняття сутнісного викладу дослідженого матеріалу.uk_UA
dc.description.abstractThis article proves that language plays an important role in understanding the mechanics of cultural transfers, especially when these transfers take place within the realm of political science and international relations theories. Understanding of any theory requires a fundamental knowledge of its terms and concepts, which, in turn, have their functional dimension and, however, are not free from an emotional or expressive component. Complexity of concepts and their twofold nature (functional and emotional) make a simple "technical" translation of a given term from one language into another impossible. Even in seemingly obvious cases when we deal with geographical names – illustrated in this article with an example of "Europe": it is almost impossible to transfer this word from one language and culture into another without additional explanation, because Europe can mean many different things, it can be a geographical, historical or even civilizational-cultural concept. This article also shows that in order to understand the mechanics of cultural transfers and their results it is very important to account for the historical changes in the meaning of the concept. It should also be kept in mind that sometimes it is difficult to arrive at an objective meaning of a concept that is "stripped" of its emotional load. The illustrations provided for that in this article are "nationalism" and a historical example of what "totalitarianism" meant for the Italian fascists. If we, however, assume that some sort of objective meaning of concepts is possible when dealing with the key concepts of political theories and the theories of international relations, we have to look at the real use of those concepts – both in the original language and culture and, afterwards, in the culture and language into which is has been transferred. If such an analysis allows us to see the emotional load of the concepts, it can be neutralized by a simple actualization technique: this article gives an example of "nationalism" as it is used by K.-L. Cederman, for whom it has a clear negative meaning as a source of ethnic conflicts, wars and "ancient hatred". Should his publication be translated into Ukrainian, it would be important to warn the reader of Cederman’s position, which, in turn, might "calm down" the readers and decrease their emotional prejudices towards the text and information analysed in iten_US
