Abstract

Description
The international law is no doubt one of the most interesting subjects in Law schools curriculum. However, its teaching has been within the last years facing certain problems and requires innovative techniques. In this domain there is felt the lack of instructive and methodological materials whereas bringing to students the basic knowledge of international law is a very important issue complicated with the need to minimize politological load. This is a necessary thing but also the one consuming the lion's share of lecturing time There are some other problems, e.g. sophisticated and hard to understand wording of conventions and other international legislation as well as their huge number. Today at teachers' disposal are the real and well-tried methods enabling the results to be obtained. The author tells of this in detail. The "moot court" technique which may be deciphered as "a staged court where students practise judicial proceedings" originates from the legal schools of Oxford, Cambridge, Yell and Harvard and at present is widely spread in the Western classical schools of law as the most popular student competition. Having mastered the international law students look for a place where they can make an adequate use of the knowledge acquired. To have practice with the headquarters of international organizations seems too far away and unreachable knowing how it is arranged for our students, but most of international organizations run the internship programmes of which the author informs by presenting the table. The author is of opinion that when teaching the international law teachers have to involve the elements of other subjects such as politology, philosophy, international policy and international elations, geography, in order to explain this or that regulation in the context of its origin and use. Effective here may be a specially marked map and if possible, electronic slideograph or computer complex with programme facilities like PowerPoint and other technical means. The authof can hardly agree with some coileagues who think that "the science and subject of international aw is totally internetized " and he cites his arguments. In reality, in the field of international law Internet provides mostly brief reference materials whereas the Internet electronic databases are not so easy to use: free of charge databases are incomplete and inconvenient to handle while official ones are to be paid for. Summarizing his article the author notes that in case of a reasonable approach which would combine enthusiasm with certain pragmatism, the western methods which seem new to our teaching system may be helpful in its renewal and improvement. Naturally, this requires that teachers be willing to master the new, overcoming temporary obstacles and prejudice but keeping in mind the goal of theii work: to prepare specie!1 ists whose knowledge and skills will make them fearlessly find themselves in the realities of tomorrow when the time of employment comes up.
