Description
The given paper deals with the problems of formation and assimilation of grammar habits in the process of communication. The traditional grammar-translation approach presupposes assimilation of grammar habits in succession from pattern exercises to situational conversation. But communication cannot be reduced only to formation of non-motivated language skills. Grammar speech exercises, built on the principles of the communicative approach, should be drawn to certain aims. Communication exercises fall into receptive and speech proper exercises. The latter may be performed on the level of a sentence-utterance, a suprasentential unit and on the level of a text. The textual level is the most effective one, where different types of motivation can be applied.
