Abstract
This guide addresses a common problem in academic economics: the gap between strong analytical work and clear academic writing. Many papers are rejected not because of weak research, but due to avoidable writing issues. The guide offers practical tools to identify and improve such problems. It is organised into eight chapters. The first chapter presents the basic structure of economic argument: claim, evidence, analysis, and implication. The following chapters cover key academic genres, including research papers, literature reviews, and case studies, treating them as forms of argument. Other chapters focus on writing about quantitative data, citation and academic integrity (including AI use), and the writing process, such as planning, revising, and using feedback. A separate chapter is devoted to writing effective abstracts. The guide uses examples from leading economics papers to demonstrate how writing choices support clear argumentation. It is designed for flexible use, allowing readers to focus on specific sections or study it as a whole. The central idea of the guide is that clear writing and clear thinking are closely connected and should be developed together.
