dc.descriptionSocial inequalities in health is one of the most developed research topic in social and health sciences, including medical sociology, but little is known about the social determinants of health inequalities in Ukraine. In general, social inequalities in health are persistent diff erences in health between social classes or other social groups based on gender, age, marital status, place of residence, and so on. The main social determinants of health remain unchanged, these are income, working conditions, employment status, access to goods and services, quality of housing and living environment, access to health care and education, social capital, but the distribution of these social determinants of health is unequal in diff erent societies. The article showed the results of the study of gender and social inequalities in health among the working-age population in Ukraine on the basis of a nationwide survey (1580 people) conducted in December 2016. The study applied materialistic and intersectional approaches to investigate social inequities in health, showing the diff erences in health among diff erent social groups and reveals the most vulnerable categories of the population. According to the materialist approach, there is a strong relationship between socioeconomic factors and health, the most vulnerable are respondents with very poor material conditions as well as poor living conditions. Gender diff erences and the link between poor self-reported and unemployment are also revealed. The intersectional analysis showed the existence of both between and within gender groups inequalities in health. It is revealed that the most vulnerable are females living in very low material condition because they are almost eight times as likely to estimate their health as poor compared with males from high material condition reference group, as well as unemployed divorced females, they are almost fi ve times as likely to estimate their health as poor compared with unmarried employed males.en_US
dc.description.abstractУ статті висвітлено результати дослідження гендерних та соціальних нерівностей у здоров’ї серед населення працездатного віку в Україні на основі загальнонаціонального опитування (1580 осіб) проведеного в грудні 2016 року. У дослідженні за допомогою матеріалістичного та кроссекційного підходів до вивчення соціальних нерівностей у здоров’ї показано відмінності у здоров’ї серед різних соціальних груп та виявлено найбільш вразливі категорії населення. Відповідно до матеріалістичного підходу прослідковується чітка залежність між соціально-економічними факторами та станом здоров’ям, найбільш вразливими є респонденти з дуже низьким матеріальним станом і з незадовільними житловими умовами. Також, виявлено гендерні відмінності та зв’язок між поганою самооцінкою здоров’я та безробіттям. Кроссекційний аналіз дозволив побачити існування як міжгендерних так і нерівностей у здоров’ї в середині обох гендерних груп. Виявлено, що найбільш вразливою є категорія жінок з дуже низьким матеріальним станом, адже ймовірність самооцінки здоров’я як поганого серед даної категорії майже у вісім раз вища у порівнянні з чоловіками з високим матеріальним станом, а також категорія непрацюючих розлучених жінок ймовірність самооцінки здоров’я як поганого серед них більш ніж у п’ять раз вища у порівнянні з неодруженими працюючими чоловіками.uk_UA
