Abstract
This article is focused on the questions of representing collective and private experiences through the concept of writing in Kalynets’ poetry. On the one hand, the writing itself is seen by the poet as an embodiment of cultural memory or, to some extent, a metaphor of an archive which can be interpreted as a documentary evidence of unillusiveness of the past. On the other hand, for Kalynets the process of writing is connected with a sphere of private, since writing as a message in the material form is ambivalent in its core; it is the process of transferring information, as well as the experience of the private space. In his poems, Kalynets experimented with the following characteristics of writing: coherence, information structure, contextuality, and materiality; these characteristics correspond with poetics of his texts and with the cycles as a whole. In his "Manifested Writings" and "Poetic Inscriptions", writing can be determined both as an object and as a method of representation. Besides, in these poetic cycles, writing is conceptualized as interconnection of texts, discourses, and experiences in the space of palimpsest. The focus on materiality of writing is conditioned by placing poetic plots into a historical context; in this way, writing can be conceptualized not only as narration but also as an emblem, a memo, or evidence. In "My Alphabet", a specific turn to sensuality can be noticed; that is, the corporeal nature which is hidden behind abstractness of formalized note becomes visible. Therefore, every letter can be interpreted not as an instrument of sense distinction, but as the unit of sense in substance. As can be seen, different characteristics of writing are manifested. What is more, writing depends on the contexts and can be seen as an emblem, a palimpsest, or a private message.
