Abstract
Матеріал виступу на Міжнародній конференції "Практичні проблеми юридичної освіти України в контексті європейської інтеграції", Київ, Україна, 20 вересня 2001 р.
Description
In the authors' opinion, students may be motivated to study the law of criminal procedure systemically through an improved control over their knowledge using teaching modules.
The author analyses how the teaching modules work taking the subject of "Law of criminal procedure of Ukraine" as an example. Teaching module is a logically completed section containing several lectures. After the lectures have Oeen read two or three business role-plays covering the whole section are hold. The module is finalized with a problem lecture. Students who have not missed classes within the module and received a minimum rating score specified by the department are invited for an interview. Students working in profession may learn the material included in this or that module ahead of time, and report to a teacher as agreed with him. Having passed the first two modules a student receives a credit.
Alter the third and fourth modules have been learnt a concluding exam takes place. Students' spare time due to this schedule is used on their own. 7or students who have mastered all the four modules prior to the end of an academic year the exams in the law of criminal procedure are cancelled. In case someone could not due to some reason report his knowledge timely, this can be done as agreed with a teacher. A student's report on mastering a certain part of the subject, i.e. the one included in a certain module is considered accepted if
during an interview lie shows his understanding of the subject by giving well-reasoned verbal or written comments. Participation in business role-plays is compulsory. A student’s compliance with the tasks is assessed by awarding him a certain score. For everybody a minimum, medium or maximum score is defined to correspond to "satisfactory", "good" and
"excellent" grades. By regular reporting his knowledge throughout the whole period of studying tae law of criminal procedure a student controls his progress by himself. Knowing in advance a maximum score awarded for his excellence in fulfilling every task he may reasonably order his efforts in achieving desirable results. The final assessment of students' progress in learning the law of criminal procedure is made by a teacher by summarizing the scores awarded lor the fulfillment of all tasks, participation in business role-plays, etc.
