Description
The article analyzes some aspects of reformation of legal education in Ukraine. The author points to the topicality of educational problems in the context of a large-scale legal reform in the country. Giving analysis to the basic provisions of the State Programme of the Development of Legal Education in Ukraine (2001) he contends that the principal goal of transformations is to achieve the new qualitative level in training legal specialists and bring the potential of legal education as much closer as possible to the needs of legal practice.
Mentioned amongst the main tasks in achieving the above goal should be the implication in teaching process of the ideas of humanism, justice, human rights, standardization of legal activities, moral duty, professional responsibility, etc. It is already today that the existence of deontological, ethical norms and rules of behaviour designed for lawyers raises the
problems of practical implementation thereof since the bigger part of moral standards are contained in the acts of international law left unstudied in the main. The key idea implies that a
graduate having a diploma from the legal education institution must be prepared morally for his future work in profession while the major moral values inherent in legal practice should become not just a mere part of professional knowledge but an element of lawyer’s professional consciousness and the system of moral convictions. Apart from this, it is the practical work that opens the importance of learning the Juridical Deontology Course and the role of deontological knowledge in the process of ed u cating lawyers and formation of their professional culture and consciousness.
