Description
The course of Human Rights Protection is a new course which
has not been taught in the Universities of Ukraine while in the
Soviet Union. Nowadays, it is a required course in secondary schools
and a special course or an elective course only in some Law Schools
of the Universities of I Ikraine. Meanwhile, in Western Universities
the course of Internationa! Law of і їй man Rights is offered to students
of all Law Schools. It is obvious that in transitional states
from totalitarian regime to the state with the rule of law teaching
human rights is of extreme importance.
Kyiv-Mohyla Academy Law School offers two electives: Human
Rights Protection and International Human Rights. Traditionally the
courses consist of lectures and seminars. Students are offered reading
materials which they have to prepare for lectures and seminars, and
they have to write a critical review of one of them which they present
at the seminar. Students also get control questions, situations to prepare
for seminars. The methods of role plays, moot court of the European
Court of Human Rights is widely used. Students write course
papers and qualification papers on this courses. Written papers for
the course consist of tests and critical reviews of reading materials.
