Navigating cancer care in Ukraine: patient’s coping strategies to ensure access and quality

Purpose This study investigates how socio-economic and healthcare factors shape the coping strategies of patients diagnosed with cancer in Ukraine, including the decision to forego treatment. The focus is on how these variables influence patients’ strategies to gain access to services, ensure better treatment quality, and decrease treatment costs. Methods Data were collected in 2021 through structured interviews in three oncological dispensaries and an online questionnaire among patients diagnosed with cancer in Ukraine (632 patients in total). Sequential logistic regression analyses were applied to identify patterns in selecting specific coping strategies. Results The results show that socio-economic characteristics, the perception of service quality, financial resources, and the availability of support influence the choice of coping strategies. Older patients and women are more likely to use informal payments than connections. Patients, who perceive service quality as (very) bad and those finding it hard to afford treatment, are more likely to deploy coping strategies. Higher education and urban residency also impact the coping strategy applied. Conclusion The study highlights significant disparities in the choice of coping strategy regarding cancer treatment in Ukraine.
Coping strategies, including informal payments and connections, are crucial for accessing and ensuring better treatment. These findings underscore the need for evidence-informed policies to support the most vulnerable cancer care patients in Ukraine.

Фільм "Голод-33" переміг на французькому кінофестивалі

2 лютого 2009 року на міжнародному кінофестивалі у Венсені фільм Олеся Янчука "Голод-33" отримав першу премію ім. Анрі Ланглуа "За винятковий захист і поширення гуманізму". Фільм, знятий на кіностудії ім. О.Довженка ще 1991 року, вперше демонструвався на телебаченні перед Референдумом з приводу Незалежності України у листопаді того самого року. Режисер наголошував, що "Голод-33", знятий за мотивами повісті "Жовтий князь" Василя Барки, - це перша ігрова стрічка в Україні, яка висвітлювала тему геноциду українського народу.
Estimating inflation and inflation expectations based on a Markov-Switching Vector Autoregression approach: case of Ukraine

This article examines the behaviour of inflation and inflation expectations in Ukraine under conditions of macroeconomic instability caused by the full-scale Russian-Ukrainian war. Using a Markov Switching Vector Autoregressive (MS-VAR) model, the study investigates regime-switching dynamics between high and low volatility periods from 2021 to 2024. The findings reveal asignificantly longer duration of high-volatility regimes (averaging 4 months) compared to low-volatility regimes (1.4 months), reflecting the prolonged instability in the macroeconomic environment. The results highlight that inflation expectations and consumer price index (CPI) dynamics differ markedly between regimes. Under low volatility, changes in the key policy rate have a stronger and more predictable impact on domestic prices, aligning with theoretical expectations. Conversely, during high volatility, both inflation expectations and the CPI are predominantly driven by their own fluctuations, limiting the central bank’s control. During periods of destabilization, the influence of monetary policy on the macroeconomy tends to weaken, as heightened volatility diminishes the effectiveness of policy transmission mechanisms. The study also demonstrates the utility of the MS-VAR model in capturing regime-dependent dynamics and the influence of monetary policy during crises. The model successfully passed the Stability Condition Check, ensuring its reliability for analysis. Insights from Ukraine’s experience in conducting monetary policy under conflict conditions offer valuable lessons for other nations facing similar economic challenges. The findings emphasize the critical role of adaptive monetary strategies in maintaining economic resilience amid crises. This research provides valuable insights into the interplay between macroeconomic indicators during periods of instability, such as crises or wartime, and offers a framework for policymakers to navigate the complexities of managing inflation and expectations under volatile conditions. The findings are particularly relevant for countries facing similar economic challenges, as they underscore the importance of understanding regime shifts and the nonlinear dynamics of inflation and economic policies during times of crisis or conflict.

Нові види кредитування в Україні в умовах розвитку фінансових технологій

Стаття присвячена характеристиці нових видів кредитування в умовах розвитку фінансових технологій, зокрема одноранговому (P2P/ B2B) кредитуванню на онлайн-платформах; обґрунтуванню потреб і позитивних ефектів його впровадження в теоретичному та практичному аспектах; виділенню проблемних питань, розв’язання яких сприятиме розвиткові цих видів кредитування в Україні. У публікації відображена глибина кредитування та попит на кредити в українській економіці, діючі кредитні посередники та пропоновані кредитні послуги. Виділені поняття та види однорангового (P2P/ B2B) кредитування на онлайн-платформах; організаційні аспекти кредитування; характерні риси такої кредитної співпраці. Наведені приклади діючих онлайн-платформ з одноранговим кредитуванням у зарубіжній та українській практиках. Узагальнено, що в теоретичному аспекті розвиток онлайн-платформ із одноранговим (P2P/ B2B) кредитуванням розширює види кредитних послуг: до загальної класифікації додається новий вид кредиту без посередників-кредиторів. У практичному аспекті розвиток онлайн-платформ із одноранговим кредитуванням є альтернативою та доповненням таких видів кредитування для позичальників, як карткові та споживчі кредити кредитних посередників, короткострокові кредити бізнес-суб’єктам для поповнення оборотного капіталу. Може бути додатковим каналом примноження капіталів для інвесторів-кредиторів. Завдяки використанню фінансових технологій сприяє: а) зменшенню трансакційних і часових витрат суб’єктів у кредитній взаємодії за рахунок виключення ролі фінансових посередників; б) автоматизації та підвищенню рівня прозорості кредитних процесів; в) покращенню доступності кредитів, у т.ч. для фінансово виключених верств населення (питання інклюзії). Визначено, що подальший розвиток однорангового кредитування на базі онлайн-платформ для фізичних осіб і бізнес-суб’єктів в Україні стримується зокрема такими
чинниками, як: нестабільність економіки та фінансова й бізнесова нестабільність потенційних позичальників; низький рівень довіри до онлайн-кредитування з боку позичальників та часто непрозорі умови кредитування з боку кредиторів; потреби вдосконалення законодавчих регулюючих норм і кібербезпеки для кредитування з використанням фінансових технологій; економічні наслідки війни; міграція населення та бізнесу й ін.
Українське кіно: зупинка

4 березня на розширеному засіданні секретаріату НСКУ було присутнє керівництво кіногалузі (заступник міністра культури і туризму України Тимофій Кохан, керівник держслужби кінематографії Ганна Чміль) та директори державних кіностудій. Ганна Чміль повідомила: сума держбюджету на кінематографію на 2009 рік становить у 10 разів менше, аніж у попередні роки (усього 5 млн грн).
"17 років Незалежності"

За 17 років незалежності України національна кіноіндустрія фактично стала технічним придатком для іноземних компаній: павільйони кіностудій здають для зйомок російських серіалів, українські 3D аніматори працюють на іноземний ринок, актори, оператори, сценаристи, режисери не мають шансів створювати українське кіно. І якщо ситуація не зміниться, режисерський потенціал цих людей для країни буде втрачено. Аби цього не сталося, 17 молодих режисерів зібралися, щоб знайти "ВИХІД"..."ВИХІД" символізує пошук свого місця у світовій культурі. Концепція проекту: 17 - кількість фільмів, які знімуть 17 молодих українських режисерів.

Magnetically tunable surface phonon polaritons in ZnO and ZnO:Mn ceramics

The excitation conditions and spectra signatures of surface phonon polaritons and plasmon–phonon polaritons in ZnO and Mn-doped ZnO ceramics have beentheoretically analyzed and experimentally probed. Specular infrared reflection and attenuated total reflection spectroscopy were employed to investigate their dispersion relations. A single-oscillator model was used to describe the dielectric permittivity of ZnO ceramics, accounting for additive phonon and plasmon contributions. Theoretical and experimental dispersion curves were examined in the 100–4000 cm−1 and 240–4000 cm−1 spectral range, respectively. Additionally, the effect of an external magnetic field on surface polaritons was explored, revealing magnetically tunable optical responses. These findings contribute to the development of ZnO-based plasmonic and photonic devices, particularly in infrared and terahertz applications.

Приємною несподіванкою для України став той факт, що організатори запросили на відкриття спеціальної міжнародної програми фестивалю "Маска плюс" театр сучасної хореографії "Київ модерн-балет" (балети "Болеро" та "Дощ").
До питання давності української мови: цивілізаційний вимір

Тема "Давність української мови в координатах безпеки Української Держави", обговорювана на круглому столі ВУТ "Просвіта" імені Тараса Шевченка 20 жовтня, надзвичайно актуальна та потребує пильної уваги наукової спільноти. У межах заходу відбулася змістовна, конструктивна й жвава дискусія учасників. За підсумками обговорення ухвалено рішення про необхідність подальшого комплексного вивчення порушеної проблеми із застосуванням міждисциплінарного підходу, зосібна у її цивілізаційному вимірі, тобто як складової культурно-історичного процесу формування українського суспільства, державності та національної ідентичності. У зв’язку з цим пропонується до уваги читачів певне наукове дослідження, котре було опубліковано під назвою "Українські культурно-етнічні території: історія формування, мова, культура та державність. Innovations in the reconstruction of the industry of Ukraine in the post-war period

Purpose. To prove the prospects of the driver industries of innovative development (IID) of Ukraine in the post-war period (PWP), to propose organizational forms that will promote innovative development. war period (PWP), to propose organizational forms that will promote innovative development. Methodology. The following methods were used: correlation analysis to establish promising IID in PWP and to identify types of innovation-active enterprises that will primarily ensure the development of these industries; comparative analysis ‒ to identify the features of the innovative activity of enterprises (IAE) and the differentiation of this activity by the number of employees; critical analysis ‒ to determine organizational forms that will promote IAE; logical analysis ‒ to establish a factor that determines the development strategy and is also an indicator of innovative capacity.
Findings. New organizational forms are proposed to increase cooperation between scientific organizations and industrialists. It is specified that the process of innovative and technological reconstruction of industry has already begun. The features of IAE and its differentiation by the number of employees are established, which causes differences in determining investment strategies and ways of commercializing innovations. It is noted that IAEs with relatively lower economic stability are most often directed towards projects with low added value, which reduces their competitiveness and profitability. It is indicated that IAE increases the need for innovations in related industries, which causes the integration of industries and the formation of driver industries that contribute to IAE of other industries. This integration will contribute to the formation of value-added chains. Originality. It is noted that the factor that begins to determine IID strategy and is the indicator of the innovative capacity of the enterprise and the industry becomes the volume of its own financing of innovations. It is indicated that inter-sectoral integration, reliance on own financial resources for innovative activity, formation of directions of innovative development by enterprise management in PWP will mark a change in hierarchical relations between business, state and society in innovative activity to network. Practical value. Identifying promising IIDs for PWP innovative recovery of the country will allow institutional and industrial structures to effectively interact primarily with industries-drivers.
An Age-Structured Diffusive Model for Epidemic Modelling: Lie Symmetries and Exact Solutions

A new age-structured diffusive model for the mathematical modelling of epidemics is suggested. The model can be considered as a generalization of two models suggested earlier for similar purposes. The Lie symmetry classification of the model is derived. It is shown that themodel admits an infinite-dimensional Lie algebra of invariance. Using the Lie symmetries, exact solutions, in particular those of the travelling wave types and in terms of special functions, are constructed. Examples of application of exact solutions with the correctly-specified parameters for calculation of the total number of infected individuals during an epidemic are presented.
The cauchy problem for one class of parabolic pseudodifferential equation with deviation of the argument

In this paper, we study solvability of the Cauchy problem for a parabolic pseudodifferential equation with the deviation of the argument. Parabolic pseudodifferential operator with non-smooth symbols introduced by Eidel’man and Drin’ for the first time. For such equations, the initial condition is set on a certain interval. Technical and physical reasons for delays can be transport delays, delays in decision-making, delays in information transmission, etc. The most natural are delays when modeling objects in medicine, population dynamics, ecology, etc. Other physical and technical interpretations are also possible, for example, the molecular distribution of thermal energy in various media (liquids, solid bodies, etc.) is modeled by heat conduction equations. Features of the dynamics of vehicles in different environments (water, land, air) can also be taken into account by introducing a delay. The formula for the solution of the Cauchy problem is constructed for the nonlinear equation of heat conduction with a deviation of the argument, its properties are investigated.
