Багатий на корисні копалини, природними ресурсами, флорою і фауною, лісовими ресурсами, які по території займають 35 гектарів є дивним місцем відпочинку. У його склад входить одне місто, одне селище міського типу, 38 сільських населених пунктів за площею займає територію 1626,7 кв. км або 6% території Луганської області. На території району проживає 52,6 тис. чол, в тому числі 21,5 тис. чол. сільське населення. район можна назвати аграрно-індустріальним.uk
