dc.descriptionThe article deals with the relationship between two fundamentally different players in the political arena of Israel: the national-conservative party Likud and Jewish religious conglomerate of political parties. The article seeks to fin d out and investigate the role of religious parties in the political structure of the State of Israel that determined the features of the electoral system. The author marks the significance of the secular government which depended on formation of a coalition and features of the relationship between religious parties with the ruling bloc. After some 30 years of Workers’ Party of the Land o f Israel ruling, the party headed by Menachem Begin first came to power in 1977, which would eventually be referred to as "the Upheaval". The article deals with policy concessions to religious parties during 1977-1981, which was designed to obtain their support of internal and foreign policy of the ruling party and use religion as a means o f political struggle. The article addresses and outlines the three most influential parties among the representatives of the religious part ofgovernment and refers to smaller political players who had more radical religious positions. In particular, the author highlights the issue of the social base of the parties and their electorate and the causes of hardly variable number of votes that were given for them on elections. The article also considers ow Likud Bloc coming to power impacts on the socio-religious relations in the government. In the period o f 1977-1981 Likud and the religious parties were the two powerful political players who were in a stable condition of mutual understanding and cooperation. Likud government, as the executive office of the country, initiated laws concerning the religious sphere that stood face to face with the religious part of the government.
