dc.description.abstractСтаттю присвячено аналізу розміщення курганів скіфів V-IV ст. до н. е. в степовому просторі Дніпро-Молочанського межиріччя. Констатується, що саме в зоні найкращих пасовиськ цього регіону були зведені найбільші поховальні пам’ятки скіфської верхівки. Частина цих пам’яток маркує давні шляхи, їх перехрестя та місця переправ.uk_UA
dc.description.abstractThe article deals with territorial distribution of kurhans of the Scythians kings’ and their closest entourage (V-IV centuries BC.) in the steppe area between the rivers Dnipro and Molochansk. The review of geographical conditions of the region leads to the conclusion regarding a direct relation of the location of socially significant kurhans and a rich soil underneath. In other words, the kurhans of the social elite were erected in the area of the best pastures of the region. Besides, they depend on the ancient paths, intersections and the places of water crossings. The ancient roads passed close to the steppe watershed, where the majority of kurhans were constructed. In addition, Scythian burial mounds were erected in the high places in the 2-10 km away from wetlands (floodplains, steppe ravines etc.). The connection between kurhans and ancient roads were also caused by the need to deliver the sod blocks from the humid lowlands. The sod were used for the construction of the mound of a kurhan. We regard important steppe crossroads of antiquity, near which the famous kurhans Oguz, Kozel and Mordvinovskyy were constructed. Large kurhans emphasized the significance of ancient trade routes that connected the center of Hellenic civilization on the Crimean Black Sea coast to the centres of settlement in the forest-steppe of the Middle Dnipro region.en_US
