Description
The article refers to the spiritual climate of the 1960s. We describe the general situation of the cultural and intellectual needs of creative youth of the named period. For example, the artist and architect Anatoly Summar shows the penetration of the modern art in the established environment of Soviet youth. In the 1960s, access to artistic information was limited. Architects with whom I communicated at that time felt great thirst for knowledge. They received magazines out of all possible sources, not only Russian, but also French, Polish, Hungarian, Czech. These publications were allowed during a brief "Khrushchev’s Vidlyha." The young intellectuals and students in the 1960s greedily swallowed all information about the world beyond the Iron Curtain, effectively using this liberal period. We finally become familiar with films of Federico Fellini, Inhmar Berhman, with the aura of subconscious carnival. With magazines "Voprosy Filosofii" and other publications readers appreciated ideas of Florensky, Berdyaev, Gumilev, all modernism philosophy. In Soviet republics the idea of national identity was very strong at that time. Spiritual food for the youth of the 1960s was illegally distributed by works of Solzhenitsyn, Sakharov, and other authors of "samizdat," and in Ukraine those were Hrushevskyi, Berdyaev, Koshelevyts and thinkers of the Ukrainian diaspora. Nationally conscious youth read poetry and prose of "Executed Renaissance." Youth of the 1960s was formed in the aura of a dualistic understanding of life and times of Stalinism tragedy, creative and spiritual elevation with the hope of long-awaited freedom. At Sumar’s house young people were appreciating more intuitive art. No one in this house lectured or studied enlightenment of youth, but everyone could take a rare book at that time and dive into other dimensions of Picasso’s craft, Pikabia’s illogical compositions, expressive anxiety of Kokoschka and limitless imagination of Dali lived.
