Abstract
У статті розглянуто питання про долю краси в сучасному мистецтві з позиції вражень реципієнта, а не настанов митця чи куратора. ідправним пунктом дослідження є факт, що у відвідувачів експозицій сучасного мистецтва часто виникає запитання "Чому сучасне мистецтво таке некрасиве?". Відкинувши упередження щодо наївності цього запитання, маємо проаналізувати його витоки, підстави і сенс, щоб зрозуміти соціальне значення відмови від краси. Гіпотеза полягає в тому, що відсутність краси, як її переживає публіка, пов’язана не стільки з некомфортністю споглядання, скільки з відсутністю сенсу в самому спогляданні, тобто з даремно втраченим часом. Закиди стосовно «некрасивого мистецтва» виражають не лише схильність публіки до комфорту і приємних відчуттів; ідеться про симптом розладу відносин між митцем і публікою, про відмову митців від здійснення важливих соціальних функцій.
Description
The article deals with the fate of beauty in contemporary art from the point of view of a recipient, not an artist or curator. The starting point of research was the fact that a visitor of contemporary art exhibitions often asks, "Why is contemporary art so unbeautiful?" After rejecting prejudice to the naivety of this question, we examine its origins; the reasons and the meaning that can contribute to a better understanding of the social consequences of abandonment of beauty. The main hypothesis of the study is that the lack of
beauty is connected not with uncomfortable contemplation but with the lack of the sense of contemplation that is with the wasted time. It is argued that the philosophical (Theodore. W. Adorno, Alain Badiou) and art (Peter Weibel) justification of refusal of beauty in art is not relevant because it does not match the art lovers̓ expectations. The viewer’s frustration and confusion indicates the absence of such experience,
which completely eliminates all the questions and the need for justification. This experience might be a perception of art as entertainment or the status (cultural) ritual, but it is a socially recognized form of aesthetic experience. Aesthetic experience embodies the completeness of life and the importance of the moment here and now, so as producing not beauty̓s charm (glamor) but an essential need of human existence. The author states that forms of
unbeautiful art" express not only that the public is inclined to comfort and good feelings; it is a symptom of a relationship disorder between the artist and the audience; the artists refuse to implement their important social function.
