Abstract
Description
The article addresses issues of translating German philosophical texts into Ukrainian. This
translation process is seen as an important factor of renewing and developing the Ukrainian
philosophical language. In particular, the article focuses on translating the concepts of
German philosophical anthropology, practical philosophy and sociology, including: “Aussenwelt” (external world), “Innenwelt” (internal world), “Merkwelt” (noticeable world),
“Wirkwelt” (action world), “Umgebung” (surroundings), “Umwelt” (environment). The author is discussing these issues with Ukrainian philosopher and translator Mariia Kultaieva
and provides his arguments for translating German concept of “Mitwelt” with a Ukrainian
neologism “spilnosvit” (commonworld, world-with). This concept is linked to the practical
philosophy of K.M. Mayer-Abich who considers human existence and the existence of nature as a common world, as existence with each other. The article also suggests Ukrainian
versions of translating key concepts of German transcendental pragmatics, including
“Letztbegrьndung” (ultimate foundation), “Geltungsanspruch” (claim for meaning),
“Unhintergehbarkeit” (irreducibility) and others. These issues are addressed based upon
the author’s conception of a “re-birth (and birth) of a philosophical culture from the world
of translation”.
