The author examines Korean phraseological units with the component 똥
that denotes the processes of
fertilization of the soil. First, the author observes that comparative analyses of phraseological units of the
Korean and Ukrainian languages are very rare and seldom performed. From his point of view, the reasons
for this state are historical, cultural, demographic, political, and geographical conditions. But the author
has made a point that both countries have common features, such as: extended subjugation and oppression
by stronger neighboring countries, numerous war devastations, and a large majority of people were farmers.
Nevertheless, the agricultural development in Korea and in Ukraine was different, thus this fact, in the
author’s opinion, has a great influence on phraseology which denotes the soil fertilization. With this background,
the author analyzed the primary and secondary nominations of the marked phraseological units, a
possibility of their translation into the Ukrainian language, development and divergences of Ukrainian and
Korean agriculture that found the reflection in phraseology of the Korean people. In the second part of the
article, the author gives various descriptions of the term of “phraseological unit” that evince that this term
does not have one definition and can be disparately understood. The author included into the phraseological
area proverbs and sayings, which in his belief are an integral part of the national phraseology. In the
final part, the author translates phraseological units according to their grammatical, semantic and stylistic
equivalence.
