Що давніший об’єкт, то більше захоплення та інтерес він викликає. У центрі уваги статті – дерев’яна архітектура м. Чернігова ХІХ – початку ХХ ст., прикрашена різьбленням, яка представляє традиційну забудову міста в позаминулому столітті і є безсумнівною естетичною та художньою, а інколи – й історичною цінністю. У статті охарактеризовано стан, кількість та райони розташування в Чернігові дерев’яних будинків, що мають історико-культурну або естетичну цінність, порушено питання щодо їх збереження, окреслено шляхи їх використання як туристичних ресурсів.Ancient objects created by craftsmen of the past that demonstrate the mainstreams and technology of those days are always guaranteed to get attention of future generations. The older the object, the more it is admired and the more interest it sparks. Many of such objects can be of interest to a tourist because they are characterized by uniqueness, their historic, artistic or spiritual value, and aesthetic appeal. The article focuses on the wooden architecture of Chernihiv that dates back to the 19th and early 20th centuries; it is decorated with carvings that represent the traditional development of the city in the century before last. Nowadays, there are over 200 houses decorated with carvings in Chernihiv. Our research included 232 buildings that were discovered by the expeditionary method in the historical areas of Chernihiv. The systematization of the collected data was accomplished based on location, condition, and artistic credentials. In terms of location, all the buildings are some distance off from each other, so it can be quite challenging to include them all into one’s single walking route. There can be different sightseeing tours, starting with trips in old trolleybuses, cycling tours, walks, and ending with city quests. Such sightseeing tours will draw additional public attention to the issue of preserving the wooden architecture of Chernihiv. Moreover, they will enrich the list of activities the city has to offer to its visitors. The relevance of a "skansen" or a pedestrian street is also considered in the article. The buildings can accommodate artisan workshops, coffee shops, gift shops, museums of folk art, and art salons, which will also have influence on the tourist attractiveness of the city The wooden architecture of Chernihiv is our cultural heritage with its unique features, carvings, patterns, and its own symbolic language. The buildings are eyewitnesses of the history of the city and various human destinies.
