Обґрунтовано поділ її на чотири основні періоди: (1) перші спроби дослідження мови, культури, природи Японії (1870-1920 pp.); (2) період розвитку систематичних наукових досліджень (1920-1933 pp.); (3) період практично повної відсутності японознавчих досліджень (1933-1953 pp.); (4) період їх поступового відновлення (1954-1990 pp.).The article contains an outline of the history of Japanese Studies in Ukraine before the declaration of independence in 1991. It is argued that the history of Japanese Studies in Ukraine can be divided roughly into four following periods: (1) the earliest attempts to study the language, the culture, and the nature of Japan (1870-s-1920-s); (2) the period of the development of systematic scholarly studies (1920-s-1933); (3) the "Dark Ages" of Japanese Studies in Ukraine (1933-1953); (4) the period of the gradual reestablishment (1954-1990).ukкультурологіяісторіяяпонознавствоУкраїнастаттяArticle
