The revealed data made it possible to shape a hypothesis about the existence of many branches of the noble clan of Mazepa, which originated from Volyn. The key centres of influence in this territory were magnate residences in Rivne, Klevan, and Zhukiv, the owners of which took Mazepas into service and granted them land within their patrimonial possessions and royal fiefs. In the mid-16th and the first half of the 17th centuries), clan representatives had the surnames Mazepa, Hrushvytskyi (Mazepa-Hrushvytskyi), Kolodenskyi (Mazepa-Kolodenskyi, Mazepa-Koledynskyi), Mazepa-Kamenetskyi.
