Доводиться, що розширення Європейського союзу 2000-х років утворило специфічну територію, яку складають Білорусь, Молдова і Україна і яку можна визначити як східноєвропейське пограниччя. Було виявлено різницю у трендах розвитку країн Центральної і Східної Європи, які залучені до процесу європейської інтеграції, та суспільств пограниччя.Development and problems of modernization of peripheral societies of European civilization are considered in the paper. It is argued that recent enlargement of the European Union has left three Eastern European countries – Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine in a specific zone that can be defined as Eastern European borderland.
