The author gives concise characteristic to the rule of law principle, its historical origin, content, formal and substantial facets. In addition, it is analyzed the content of the provision on the highest legal force of the Constitution of Ukraine including the provision that the norms of the Constitution of Ukraine are norms of direct effect.У статті подано науковий коментар до статті 8 Конституції України, яка закріплює фундаментальний принцип правової системи – верховенства права. Автор розкриває стислу формальну та матеріальну характеристику принципу верховенства права, його історичне походження, зміст.
