It is aimed to describe the changes in the semantics of social and political lexemes on the example of the names of political parties, movements and ideological currents fixed in lexicographical works of the Soviet and Post-Soviet eras, as well as to disclose the peculiarities of the influence of ideological directions on the formation of dictionary definitions. The relevance of the problems of the development of words semantics under the influence of extralinguistic reality, the interaction of language and society, language and ideology and linguistic manipulation has led us to choose the subject of research. It is revealed that the polarization of the social and political realities into “ours” and “theirs”, “right” and “wrong” during the Soviet period caused the conversion of dictionaries in the tool for the formation of ideological picture of the world by axiologization of definitions, ideologization of words interpretations, and selection of ideologically important illustrations. The main trend in the lexicographical interpretation of lexical items for defining social and political phenomena of the Post-Soviet era is the deideologization of their semantics, i. e. losing of ideological coloring. Lexical units are being exempted from ideological connotations, neutralized, losing the negativeevaluative status artificially acquired during Soviet times. This is accomplished by reformulation of the definitions, deactualization of socialistic content, negation of ideological attribute markers etc. A comparative analysis of dictionary entries has made it possible to reveal the cases of both complete and partial deideologization of the vocabulary in modern dictionaries. The definition of a term in case of complete deideologization testifies to the reevaluation of the social life events, while the examples of partially deideologized terms demonstrate the inadequacy of dictionary interpretations in the present-day situation.Статтю присвячено дослідженню семантичних модифікацій у найменуваннях політичних партій, рухів та ідеологічних течій, які відбувалися під впливом екстралінгвальних чинників упродовж XX – на початку XXI ст.
