Toulmin, which justifies the relationship and continuity of ideas in science. Analysis of the arguments of the philosopher has shown the ways of obtaining a productive results in science. The essence of the idea of organic combination of socio-cultural aspect of scientific work with the logic of its development is revealed. The article says in the methodology of science should be something like historical relativity (as opposed to relativism), so the general scientific standards are changing and mind is unable to know them a priori. But in this context we can’t talk about objective logic of the scientific process in progressive orientation of its changes. The analysis shows that the historical school of postpositivist philosophy of science was questioned the existence of a single standard of rationality on the basis of historical, social and cultural aspects of science. The contrasting situation is the situation of brilliant success within scientific reduction of: empirical theories to deeper theories, phenomenological to fundamental, to interdisciplinary methodological reductionism.В статті розглядається теорія «концептуальних популяцій» С. Тулміна, яка обґрунтовує взаємозв’язок і неперервність ідей в науці.
