dc.description	This article examines some key components of the concept of authenticity of modern Canadian philosopher Charles Taylor (1931). The research is focused on philosophical, cultural, and historical preconditions of the so-called Age of Authenticity genesis. The latter is considered as a historical period when the culture of authenticity became not an elitist but a mass phenomenon. The article discovers Taylor’s arguments for treating authenticity as a moral ideal, as far as his criticism levelled against moral relativism. Authenticity is considered in the correlation with the aspiration to the personal self-expression and selfdiscovery, modern human’s “expressivism”, “pursuit of happiness”, and fundamentally dialogical character of human life. The connection between authenticity and the concept of significant Other is discovered. History, tradition, and nature are considered as inescapable horizons and preconditions for the realization of the ideal of authenticity. The article examines the interaction between the culture of authenticity, on the one hand, and consumer culture, sexual revolution, and changes in the social imaginary (particularly new interpretations of civilizational order and an ethic of discipline) on the other hand. The author discovers a new attitude to the sacred and to religion, as far as challenges which Christian churches faced. It is important to underline the authenticity for discussions of multiculturalism. The article analyses arguments of “opponents” and “defenders” of the culture of authenticity. Origins of reduction, banalization, distortion of the ideal of authenticity, as for its impact to the public sphere and political culture level, are examined. The author examines the causes of contradictions and tension within the culture of authenticity, which Ch. Taylor introduced, as well as the ways for overcoming them. Finally, the article covers Taylor’s arguments for the culture of authenticity to be reconsidered and further transformed.	en
dc.description.abstract	У статті розглянуто ключові аспекти концепції автентичності сучасного канадського філософа Чарльза Тейлора (нар. 1931). Увагу зосереджено на філософських, культурних, історичних передумовах ґенези так званої Епохи Автентичності. Аналізуються аргументи мислителя на користь трактування автентичності як морального ідеалу та його критика морального релятивізму. Автентичність розглядається в контексті прагнення до самовираження і самовідкриття, «експресивізму» сучасної людини, «прагнення щастя», діалогічної природи людського життя. Простежується взаємодія культури автентичності з культурою споживацтва, сексуальною революцією, змінами в суспільній уяві. Розглянуто нові тенденції в ставленні до релігії та феномену сакрального. У статті здійснено аналіз передумов спрощення, баналізації, спотворення ідеалу автентичності, впливу цих процесів на публічний простір, рівень політичної культури. Виокремлено причини суперечностей та напруги всередині культури автентичності, а також способи їх подолання, які пропонує Ч. Тейлор. Висвітлено аргументи мислителя на користь принципової можливості переосмислення й подальшої трансформації культури автентичності.	uk
