dc.description	This article is dedicated to the research on origin and development of the norms regulating pledge and mortgage, starting from the times of Roman law and finishing nowadays. The author in the article is considering the historical forms of pledge, its types and criteria for division, applied in different states of the world. The survey is made on the basis of comparative analysis of the legislation of USA, Great Britain, Germany, France, some countries of CIS and Ukraine.	en
