The article presents the research chronology of volcanic formation during the late 19th – early 20th centuries.
Stanislaw Malkowski’s contribution to the basalt mineralogy study of Western Polissia is revealed. It is
shown that the model of the native copper origin in the Vendian volcanic rocks of Volynian, which was
presented by a Polish scientist, still remains the leading one among the existing hypotheses.
