Abstract

This document distinguishes the main four areas of development of doctoral students (researchers): knowledge and intellectual abilities, techniques necessary for the research; personal qualities important for being an effective researcher; knowledge of professional standards and requirements for the study; knowledge and skills needed to work with other stakeholders and ensure the impact of research results. The specific recommendations for Ukraine were proposed. It is defined that the main types of doctoral studies relevant for the introduction in Ukraine are Doctor of Philosophy (PhD or DPhil) programs for social work, a program for the preparation of a professional doctor of social work (ProfD, PD), a training program for obtaining a PhD degree by the results of scientific publications (PhD by Publication); as well as joint international doctoral programs. It is argued the necessity for elaboration of the national Researcher’s Development Framework in order to have a more structured approach to the content of doctoral training in social work, which would ensure that the needs of the labor market and professional training are matched.
