Етґар Керет є одним із найвідоміших ізраїльських авторів, мала проза якого перекладена більш
ніж п’ятдесятьма мовами та опублікована в сорока двох країнах. Письменник уже отримав значну
кількість престижних міжнародних премій та був названий генієм на шпальтах «The New York
Times». 2016 року було перекладено українською мовою останній збірник його малої прози. Тоді ж
з’явилося декілька інтерв’ю з автором і статей про нього, проте Етґара Керета не можна вважати відомим в Україні письменником. Саме тому стаття має на меті подати більше інформації про
життєвий шлях Керета, аксіологію та естетику його творів.
Not only is Etgar Keret the most prominent Israeli author, but he also is one of the most well-known ones.
His short stories were translated into more than 50 languages (including Arabic) and published in
42 countries. The writer has won different international awards and prizes, and was acclaimed as a genius
by The New York Times. A year ago, in 2016, the first Ukrainian translation of the latest collection of Etgar
Keret’s stories “Suddenly, the Knock on the Door” was released. Consequently, several interviews with the
author and few articles about him appeared in the press. Nevertheless, the Israeli writer is not very familiar
to Ukrainian readers and critics. Due to the mentioned fact, the aims of this article are as follows: to
provide more information about Keret’s life path, to trace his motives and roots of writing, to disclose the
text axiology, and to delineate the main features of poetics. In addition, the article juxtaposed two main
perceptions of Etgar Keret’s writing. One of them is based on the political position and the other one is built
on aesthetical and ethical text values. Three short stories that were translated from Hebrew are offered so
as to acquaint the readers with Etgar Keret’s sensitive, concise, and implicitly noteworthy early prose.
