Abstract
У статті здійснено спробу наукової реконструкції життя і діяльності одного з найвидатніших представників київської богословської школи, випускника (1892-1896) і професора (1907-1919) Київської духовної академії М. М. Скабаллановича, чиї праці з біблієзнавства, літургіки та історії православного богослужіння досі не втратили науково-богословського, церковно-практичного та істори- ко-культурного значення. На підставі архівних джерел, уведених до наукового обігу переважно вперше, автор аналізує загальнопоширені відомості щодо біографії М. М. Скабаллановича, доводячи помилковість більшості усталених уявлень про віхи його життя і творчості. Значну увагу приділено аналізу матеріалів кримінальної справи М. М. Скабаллановича (1931), що проливають світло на фактично невивчений радянський період його життя і діяльності (1920-ті рр.), обставини арешту і засудження в 1931 р. у рамках сфабрикованої органами ОДПУ справи «Весна».
This article is the first attempt at scientific reconstruction of the life and activities of Mykhailo Skaballanovich, one of the most notable representatives of Kyiv school of theology, graduate (1896) and professor (1907-1919) of Kyiv Theological Academy, whose papers on Bible studies, liturgics and history of Orthodox worship still preserve their scientific, theological, practical, historical and cultural value. Basing on the retrieved archival sources that are being introduced into scientific use for the first time, the author analyzes the facts concerning M. Skaballanovich’s biography that are present in church periodical press and distributed by open access resources, and proves that most of the established ideas about his life and works (specifically, his date and place of birth, primary education, stages ofpedagogical activity, etc.) are wrong. For the first time, based on archival documents and official documents of Kyiv Theological Academy, the author recreates complex details of M. Skaballanovich obtaining a Master’s degree in theology and his election as a professor of Kyiv Theological Academy, as well as the stages of his educational and scientific career. Much attention is drawn to previously unknown aspects of Kyiv theologian’s biography, linked to his activity in theology, education, and publishing between 1913-1918. The article, for the first time, analyzes the materials of M. Skaballanovich’s criminal case from State Archives Department of the Security Service of Ukrainian funds that shed the light at the mostly unknown soviet period of his life and activities (1920s), the details of his arrest and conviction in 1931 as part of Joint State Political Directorate’s made up “Spring” case. In conclusion, the author links the perspective of further research of M. Skaballanovich’s biography with complex interdisciplinary humanitarian studies, based on document sources.
